myOp: WP Developer Assistant Plugin

If you are a wordpress developer, meaning you use WordPress as a framework for the websites you build, you might want to take a look at the plugin WP Developer Assistant

This sweet plugin adds a new top level menu item to your Admin interface which gives you access to information and tools such as direct access to all curect Actions and Hooks, all current Variables and Defines in use, and (especially handy)  an upload tool which allows you to upload Media, Plugins, and Themes to respective folders, or to a folder of your choice.

If you aren’t too timid, give it a go. I recommend it. You can tell them that I sent you.

.DAA file conversion for Mac OS X

If you’re like me and sometimes require dipping into the fetid whorls that are the Windows Desktop Experience, you may come across files that are of the file format ‘.daa’. The problem with these files is that this is a proprietary disk image format for PowerISO. Toast nor any other mac product at this time recognizes that format.

Well after searching for some time, hearing left and right how I would have to go back to a Windows box and convert them to something more universally useable, I stumbled across aptly named gem:

DAA Converter for OS X

from Twilight Edge Software. Check it. It’ll do ya good.

Republicans ARE mental! a well written summation…

From John Faulkner’s blog:

George “It’s not difficult to make the case that conservative republicans suffer from a form of mental illness. Americans have watched them embrace family values and discover ethics, while stealing an election and contriving the circumstances for starting wars. They have worked tirelessly to undermine the American Constitution while frantically waving the flag. They firmly believe in the privatization of government and consistently ignore the inconvenient history of the American taxpayer bailout of one failed/scandalized corporation after the next. These things, by and of themselves, don’t make republicans soft in their heads, but as Einstein said of insanity, it’s ‘doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.’”

And an awesome Canada Day it was

What a fabulous day. Sleep in, swim with the kids at the local pool in the beautiful hot sunny day with the amazing breeze blowing.  The temperature had to be about 30c but with the water and the wind… WOW. I can’t remember another wicked day like it for a long time. Happy making.

Then me and gramma took the kids downtown to watch the fireworks from the Main St bridge. No pictures though as I brought no camera.

At first I was bored by the show; one or two ‘works shot off at a time. Fairly lackluster. But things got more interesting as the idiots started pulling over in front of us watchers and began backing up traffic on the bridge. It was ridiculous. Especially when one guy figured he’d join the festivities and honk his car horn to some unrecognizable rhythm. I wished I’d had eggs to throw.

Eventually the police would come by and urge people to continue driving, after which a new batch of idiots would pull up as if it was their turn. *sigh* Actually I think the saddest part were the people 4 or 5 cars back who just thought traffic was bad so they were waiting patiently for those ahead to keep driving. I felt like waving them on to go around but then, the fireworks were going, afterall.

Well, it was a beautiful evening, tapering off with a cool breeze. I’m very thankful for the jean jacket I recently picked up.

Most perfect of days

if i could fly....

My kids are swimming at the pool with Gramma. The water is beautiful blue and clear, the air is absolutely perfect at 25 celcius, the wind gracefully peeling off the 2 or 3  degrees of heat to make it breathtaking. This is why I love Winnipeg, people. You can’t understand the beauty until you have seen the awful nastiness of winter burned away. You should try.

I wrote this because my brain told me to

hot linked image to WSJApparently we don’t consciously make decisions, but in fact our decisions are made for us by our unconsciousnesses before we’re even aware.

From the article, Get Out of Your Own Way, it seems some researches have discovered that through monitoring the automatic responses of our neurochemistry, they can predict our intentions or attitudes towards given information or situations.

Cannabis Halts Cancer”

a thoughtful post found here. it was passed to me from a friend, so I am reposting it.

From Darryl Mason: “It is simple insanity that a drug that can relieve and even halt the symptoms and spread of cancer is still being denied to those who could most benefit from it. The fact that this drug can be grown for free in your own backyard, and can be prepared as easily as making a cup of tea, is still the main reason why this appalling prohibition continues.”

Carlin woke me up

Remember when you woke up?

That point in life where consciousness shifted from childhoods’ self-centric view to a more self-aware worldly view of life, where the centre of all things migrated from inside oneself to about 6000km below your feet?

For me this was around the age of 12 or so.

EDIT: Kevin Smith puts it much better than I did (you jerk!) and i must heartily agree, Carlin at Carnegie was what seriously started it all for me (as well as the radio bits, they coincided that summer)

however…

On the wishlist

Wow, the iPhone is almost affordable. I am going to start working on theme-ing websites for iPhone format. There are some format templates available, and Apple provides some very powerful tools.
